How to Prepare for School Over the Summer
BY SUOMO QUARSHIE
Starting a new school year can be daunting. Rather than spending the summer relaxing, students may be stressed about the academic year looming over them. Here are some ways you can prepare for school this summer to relieve some of that stress.
1. Set Goals
Utilize free moments to jot down goals you have for the coming school year. Many entrepreneurs recommend self-evaluating before writing down your goals. You can reflect on the past school year by asking yourself, “What went well?” and “What could go even better?” After reflecting, you can write down all your goals, whether they be academic, social, or anything else.
2. Clean Up
Start by emptying out your backpack! Remove old notebooks and papers, and take the pencil stubs out of your side pockets.
3. Prepare Your Backpack
After cleaning up, you can always get a headstart on packing so that when August arrives, there's no rush! One student said, “I love preparing my backpack, it’s so fun to pack my stuff and watch videos of other students doing the same!”
4. Relax
Last but definitely not least, the most important thing to do during the summer is to take a break. The summer is set aside for students to relax, so it is important to do just that. The CDC lists taking breaks as one of the best ways to cope with stress, and Cornell Health states that taking short purposeful breaks can help to give your brain and body a refresh.
