Kim Mundorff: Success in a Competitive Market

BY KEEMY MARTINEZ

“Dedicated,” “Responsive,” and “Organized”: those are the words luxury realtor Kim Mundorff lives by. Mrs. Mundorff has been an agent since 2016 and now works as a realtor for the Lori Vaden West Group, operating under Compass Real Estate as their broker. Mrs. Mundorff has had many successes in her career, including being awarded “Best of Real Estate Agents” by DMagazine every year from 2017-2023.

In the highly competitive Dallas-Fort Worth real estate market, achieving such consistent success is no small feat. So, what sets Mrs. Mundorff apart? How has she navigated the industry to reach the top?

When starting off a big percentage of real estate agents fail due to the mindset that the industry is easy, which according to Mrs. Mundorff couldn’t be farther from the truth. So how was it that she succeeded? She credits part of her initial success to her amazing husband Todd. When starting off, she wasn’t relying fully on real estate as her primary income, since her husband helped pay at home expenses, while she used the money she earned to reinvest back into her business in order to help it grow. Furthermore, Mrs. Mundorff started her real estate career in her mid-forties, using her strong connections as a longtime resident of the city of Frisco. "Most of my success has really just been through my sphere of people that I already knew and marketing to them" she says.

Connections and help aren’t the whole reasons for her success though: hard work is. Mrs. Mundorff consistently dedicates a lot of time to her career. She answers emails and calls on the afternoons, during the weekends, and on vacations. This is something not many are willing to do, so when deciding to pursue real estate, these are important factors to consider. That doesn’t mean there aren’t benefits to the job. Flexibility is something the job offers and something Mrs. Mundorff enjoys. This flexibility allows her to have the freedom to play tennis on Thursday mornings, and join her book club on Tuesday afternoons.

Marketing plays a crucial role for many industries, including real estate, so the strategy Mrs. Mundorff believes works best is open houses. “Holding a free open house or two every single weekend is one of the best ways to sell a house” she said. Open houses are events where a home that is up for sale is open for potential buyers to inspect and view.

When asked what else she does to make sure she keeps standing out, she said, “Continue investing in your business and continue moving it forward by keeping yourself in the forefront of people's minds,.”
