Finding Your Place: Why Joining an Entrepreneurship Club Can Help Set You Up for Future Success

BY VALENTINA CASTRO

While high school is a time of discovery and growth, it is also the time to start preparing for your future, and finding your place while thinking about your future can often feel like an impossible task. But what if there was a way to make the process a little bit easier? Entrepreneurship clubs may be the answer, as they serve as gateways to a world of opportunity and personal development.

Joining an entrepreneurship club in high school isn't just about starting a business or earning money. It allows you to hone your creativity, develop new problem-solving skills, and learn to think outside of the box, in addition to more material benefits like understanding finances. These skills are useful in every aspect of your life and are fostered by like-minded club members who share your passion and excitement for innovation and entrepreneurship.

Evelyn Wang, head of the Hackley School’s Entrepreneurship Club, believes that everyone should have some sort of experience with finance or business by the end of high school. She says, "Joining a business-related club isn't just about your current actions; it's about investing in your future (and learning how to invest)! You'll gain super useful skills and experiences that you can use even if you don’t decide to be an entrepreneur in the future."

So why is an entrepreneurship club for you? Here are a few of the many ways it can benefit your future:

Hands-On Experience: Entrepreneurship clubs offer hands-on experience, letting you learn by discovering: an opportunity for growth you won’t typically find in a classroom. Whether you're launching a startup, organizing an event, or managing your club's finances, you'll be tasked to put your skills into action and learn from real-world experiences.

Making Connections: One of the most valuable parts of joining an entrepreneurship club is the opportunity to connect with mentors (such as teachers or adults in your community) and fellow students who share your interest and passion for building and growing. These connections can lead to job opportunities, internships, and future partnerships with peers.

Personal Growth: Joining an entrepreneurship club makes you step out of your comfort zone and take on new challenges. This experience will improve your resilience and growth mindset, essential qualities for success in college and beyond.

Resume Building: Being a member of an entrepreneurship club looks great on college applications and resumes. It shows admissions officers and employers that you're proactive, ambitious, and committed to personal and professional growth.

Community: Last but certainly not least, joining an entrepreneurship club means becoming part of a supportive community of like-minded individuals. You will have mentors to guide and advise you and peers to collaborate with and support you.

Overall, joining an entrepreneurship club in high school can set you up for a future full of possibilities. It's your opportunity to learn, grow, and connect with others who share your passion for innovation and personal growth, and you will develop new skills you cannot find anywhere else. So why wait? Take the leap and join the club – your future self will thank you.
