With summer right around the corner, our social media feeds are filled with beautiful coastal towns and flowy sundresses. As we sit at home scrolling, we may feel inspired to romanticize our lives to reflect what we see online. With the time and opportunity to build your visions, the perfect project to start this summer is a business. So turn these ideas into reality with three steps to start romanticizing your summer to build a better you. The goal is to come out of summer with growth, education, and passion to expand!

1. Brainstorm ideas.
The key to starting a small business is to make it based on something you enjoy and are passionate about. This something can be a craft like jewelry, digital prints and designs, or even baking — something that will help you grow your skills. In turn, it will help you educate yourself on the finances of running a business, including expenses and revenues.
2. Set the mood with a Pinterest board and playlist.
Spark inspiration for your project by creating a Pinterest board and playlist. Once you have an idea of what you want your business to focus on, figure out your vision for what your business will look like. Initially, your vision can be scattered as you explore. Once your board is finished, you can refer back to it for marketing and branding purposes. Next, start up your summer playlist. Get a refresh of new and old songs by creating a playlist that is strictly for your project. Make sure this playlist makes you feel inspired to work towards your goals and motivates you to learn.
3. Capture everything in photos and make a scrapbook or photo album.
To make the memories last a lifetime, capture everything with photos and videos. Take detail shots of your business process and any milestones you hit. This could be your first sale, production photos, and any other steps taken along the way. This media will not only help you advertise but also help you enjoy the little things that make up your progress. At the end of the season, print the photos in a photo album or scrapbook. You can get creative with different formats of photos and captions of things you did. This book can be continued beyond summer.
At the end of the day, romanticizing your summer is about doing what you enjoy and optimizing every moment of it. It is about taking the time away from school to work on your personal and professional growth. Summer is the best time to get educated on how you can build a better you.
